At the Heart of it All

At the heart of it all is convergence of dance, technique, flexibility, strength, mind, spirit and art. Train your mind with technique, train your heart to dance and all else will fall in place. In this dance training course emphasis will be placed on the combination of not only technique but an equal counterpart of dance expression. Creative processes and internal work written and oral will also be discussed. The workshop will include an intensive technique and body conditioning section. This mini intensive course is designed to give the dancer the encouragement and tools necessary to take home and incorporate into his or her own practice in order to reach the next level, the next challenge.

Then we will see tips for make your fusion or gothic dance moves cooler and become yourself in the Captain of the Stage moving like a rough-rocking sea-woman trying 3 different styles: 1) The ‘Drunk’ sailor – 2) The ‘Rough’ (some krumping moves) –3) ‘Not without my boots!’ (bring your boots and learn how to dance, walk, and turn with them). To speak we will use some nautical terms as ‘port’ for left, ‘starboard’ for right, ‘stern’ for back and ‘bow’ for front. Sure Mary Read, Anne Bonny and Cheng I Sao would be proud of you.

At the end of the workshop we will learn the last part of the choreography Morgana is going to perform at night, so you can join her at the stage! (if you want). Aye!

N.B. This class is limited to 20 places, for intermediate level or above. Not suitable for beginners. Not recommended to people who have medical knee or back problems.

The Serpent and The Spiritwalker – Improvisational Gothic Tribal Combos for Groups

This workshop will focus on improvisational gothic tribal style for groups and will feature a variety of combos to syncopate with different types of music.

Part 1: The Serpent
This section will focus on slow tribal combos with gothic stylisation. Combos will incorporate both serpentine and sharp and mechanical tribal fusion elements to give you plenty of scope for your group’s repertoire. There will be opportunity to work on the technique and drill the moves. Finally, cues will be introduced and explained to enable effective transition between moves.

Part 2: The Spiritwalker
This section will cover ‘goth’ style tribal combos designed to syncopate with a goth rock beat, emphasising the second and fourth beats in the bar. These combos can be applied to your favourite 80s and early 90s goth club classics for group improvisation. Again there will be opportunity to work on technique, drill the moves, adding cues for group improvisation.

This is an open level, mid-energy workshop. Some experience of bellydance (tribal or conventional) an advantage. Experience of tribal fusion not essential.

Orient Noir: Volatile Combinations

Add some dynamite to your dancing! These dangerous, moody and sometimes slightly naughty combinations can be used in either improv or choreographed situations. Mixing a pastiche of movements from traditional Oriental dance, classic burlesque and hot Fosse- style jazz injected with theatrical flair, these combos might look complicated, but are broken down into clear, easy-to-follow segments.

We will run the gamut from slow-motion 'gooey' taxim technique to sizzling showgirl teasing; intense entrances and exits, plus combinations with turns, fan-kicks, level changes, and hand and arm embellishments. We will also explore adding suspense, drama and emotional intent to your dancing.
