Solar Movement

An in-depth journey into the powerful expression of Sera's Solar Movement vocabulary. Solar movement is focused on expansive, travelling, fast, deep bellydance movement. Hard-driving combinations develop strength, stamina, grace through quick weight-changes, and clarity of movement. Dancers activate inner-force, balancing trust in the body, and trust in the self to move confidently in the world.

You walk onto the stage. Your music has not yet started. The audience goes silent. No-one takes a breath. They sit in stillness and awe. Anticipation washes over the room and the energy becomes intense…focused. You look out, into the audience, and glance at a few onlookers. They freeze in your stare. A rush of warmth washes over them and your music begins. Slowly, effortlessly you glide across the stage, each movement blending into the next as if you were weaving the thread of dreams and delights. All eyes follow you. You are the creator of this dream, the leader on this journey and your followers willingly embark from beginning to end, without falter. Your piece has now ended. Your final bow has been taken. You have left the stage but the essence of your creation remains with those satiated attendees who willingly traveled the corridors of your dream made into dance. You have left them in awe, captivated by something far beyond movement, costume or music. You have left them with the spirit of the dance, the essence of you, the most unforgettable you, which leaves them always wanting more.

Wachoswki Brothers used in their Matrix Trilogy a special, visual effect called "Bullet Time", that refers to a simulation of variable speed sensation (slow motion, time-lapse) with the camera. In this workshop we will simulate this effect while dancing (except for stopping frozen in mid-air... we'd need more training hours for that); we will dance using different degrees of velocity: very slow moves with faster steps. We will make combinations and drills using undulations, backbends, cambré, torso-twists, floor-work, turns and martial arts inspired movements. Not recommended if you suffer from back or knee problems.

Experience Level: For intermediate levels and above (oriental, fusion, tribal, gothic or modern dance)

Gothic Oriental Drum Solo

Learn to seamlessly blend Gothic bellydance movements, aesthetics and presentation with traditional movement frameworks and musical phrasing. The best of both worlds, rolled into one dramatic drum solo which is both darkly tantalizing and full of exciting technical precision. Students should have a basic knowledge of bellydance movement vocabulary. Emphasis will be placed on layering movements and visual interpretation of the music. Students should please be familiar with the music before the workshop. A download link will be provided for the song, after students enroll in the workshop.

Dancing the Elements

• Discussion on the elements and what they mean to us
• Warm up, yoga and stretching
• Movement or the quarters earth, air, fire and water also spirit and we will talk about props that symbolize these 5 elements and also use them.
• Looking for blockages within the body and how to remove them so we flow better and how to raise energy for performance and ritual.
• Entrance, exit, attitude, and stage presence.
• Choosing the “right” music for the atmosphere you want to create.
• We will then work together to include all the elements listed above.

You can bring you own props if you like, from veils, swords, candles skulls and please bring a yoga mat, water and wear lose clothing.

Lunar Movement

An in-depth journey into Sera's lunar movement vocabulary, and how to access the depths of the body and the deep lineage of bellydance through movement. Lunar movement is focused upon isolations and fluidity in direct relationship to expression, alignment, and honoring of the inner self. Challenging combinations develop true grace, dancers movement, extension and fluidity of the entire body.

This workshop aims to enter the world of the Damned, the creatures identified through hundreds of years as Nosferatu, Vampyre. We will focus on the embodiment of the dark character that only these creatures can bring. We will create a sense of unease in our audience by allowing our human traits and emotion to emerge from a truly unearthly body, bringing familiar traits to inhuman dance. During the two hours we will explore strong serpentine motions and sharp ticks through drilling of concise movement and yoga strengthening techniques alongside haunting travelling moves and character building tips. We will discover your own energy and create a mood or story through your own thoughts and strength of emotion - a narrative that is purely yours. Being able to realise a haunting version of a truly inhuman form through beauty, creating that connection when the audience can identify with your tale is something that can enchant the viewer for a lifetime.

You will be guided through key Tribal and Dark Fusion movement and strengthening which will be the core of our workshop. The strong presence and accuracy in motion of this dance style is particularly well-suited. We will also go through tips for lending your own personality and beauty to create a fascinating creature of the night! The workshop will culminate in a full choreography utilising what we have learned and developed that you can take home and develop further.

This is an open level workshop for anyone wishing to enhance their dark theatricality, confidence and improve strength and isolation in the Tribal Fusion format. No tribal experience necessary but knowledge of basic Belly Dance would be advisable.

Please bring a yoga mat, a veil and a pair of fangs if you wish to help the character along! A nice surprise to take home with you will also be provided!

In this workshop you will learn the application of the fundamentals of Tribal Fusion Bellydance as well as deeply explore Sashi’s signature technique: The Ascend Tribal Format.

You will gain an intensive understanding of the dance which will add to your bellydance vocabulary, combinations and choreographies. You will review proper posture and technique as well as explore the muscle groupings and skeletal construct of healthy and strong movement, including the mechanics of popping, locking and isolating.

The concept of proprioception and kinesthetics will be explained and applied to an intermediate level of Ascend Format movements and combinations providing you with technique and control that will set you apart from the crowd as a dancer.

Knowledge of basic Tribal Fusion and The Ascend Tribal Format is helpful but not required. Bring a yoga mat and water. All levels are welcome.

Learn to use principles of staging, dramatic presentation and energy flow to take control of your performance space and command the attention of the room. Learn the secrets pros use to keep all eyes on them during the show. The workshop will include exercises and tools to help you discover your own “It” factor and give your audience an engaging performance experience. Take your show to the next level. Transcend the vehicle of steps and counts. Ascend into dynamic showmanship and professional quality stagecraft. Please bring a pen and paper for notes.

Although they are best friends, ATS and Tribal Fusion often go about things in somewhat different ways. Come and learn the ATS stylings and nuances, the way it motivates movements and widen your palette of colour for your Tribal Fusion dance technique.

Free your mind and reload your body with a bit of everything: shimmies, undulations, marked moves, locks, pops, layering,... And if we throw in some travelling steps? Or we do a series of turns, one after another after another after another...? Don't think you can? Do you think that's air you're breathing now?

In this workshop we will learn several short choreographies with different techniques: turn combinations, travelling combinations, shimmies and locks combinations, etc... with a good music to reload our batteries in the morning.

Do you want to make the belt you have all ways wanted? The one that fits your shape and is the shape you want? Several designs are possible, but please NOTE:

• The corset belt - If you wish to make this one, PLEASE let me know beforehand so i can get & bring corset tape.
• Tribal and gothic belt base, this will be black unless you have your own stiff material.

I will have cloth for belt bases, in black, please bring your own components; if you don't have any please let me know, I will have some to sell!

We will work on style what works for you, but most importantly, the finished product will be a great customized belt, inspired by YOU and your imagination.

In this workshop you will learn combinations which will include insanely slow movements, mind blowingly sharp, strong movements and all that lie between.

You will then apply these combinations into a short choreography which transcends linear expectations and showcases the marriage of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance with the Ascend Tribal Format.

You will also learn how to develop skills for infusing the subtle nuances specific to the Ascend Tribal Format that create a sense of allurement, enticement and envelopment for the audience.

Knowledge of basic Tribal Fusion and The Ascend Tribal Format is helpful but not required. Bring a yoga mat and water. All levels are welcome.

Inspired by the short folktale of the same name, discover and learn a range of Gothic fusion and Russian and Balkan Roma moves and combinations. Suitable for the dead Gypsies in our tale, a tale of murder,loving,and longing! Best danced at the dead of night round the camp fire.

Students will need shoes with small heels and a shawl. Handouts and circle skirts provided.

Oriental/Egyptian moves done with good old goth music and a feline twist from haughty temple cats to cutesy kittens (yes HRH can go from corpse-like to cute with not even a pawse in between), ending with a little routine done to a classic Cure song - the clue is in the title.

A chance to learn combos with goth rock attitude and arrogance and a little tongue-in-cheek fun.

These moves will employ accents, walks and turns and variations on traditional tribal moves to create an original repertoire for your tribe; something you can use on the club dancefloor.

These moves are swishy, stompy .... and also a little quirky. Guaranteed to put the ‘G’in Gothla for your weekend!
